The red wine is beneficial against bronchitis
New study highlights the benefits of a component of red wine against chronic bronchitis: Resveratrol, which may decrease lung inflammation experienced by people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or chronic bronchitis, according to a study by experts National Heart Lung and London Imperial College.
The authors of the study, published in the medical journal Thorax, indicate that the key component of red wine is resveratrol, a phytoestrogen that may also have an anti-cancer preventive effect. According to experts, resveratrol is an antioxidant polyphenol present in the skin of red fruits, like grapes, which has been indicated as the main component containing the beneficial effects of red wine.
In the study, experts have isolated macrophages, cells responsible for inflammation, lung fluid samples of 15 smokers and 15 other patients with COPD. In one experiment, experts macrophages stimulated with cigarette smoke and resveratrol were added to the mixture. The second experiment consisted of adding the component of wine and defensive cells responsible for inflammation.
The resveratrol almost completely eliminated the production of interleukin 8 substance involved in lung inflammation in samples artificially stimulated . In this case, is down 94 % macrophages in smokers and 88% in patients with COPD, according to media reports .
The investigators have concluded that resveratrol or its compounds may be useful for treating chronic lung diseases that corticosteroids used in these cases , although the time has not yet become clear how much.
